Introducing the Marshline Small Business Spotlight

Celebrating the People Behind the Products That Make Fishing Better

When most anglers think about fishing tackle, they naturally think about the major manufacturers. Companies like Shimano, Garmin, Z-Man, Daiwa, Minn Kota, Power-Pole, and many others have earned their reputations by producing outstanding products that anglers around the world depend on every day.  Those are proven companies and some of my favorites as well

You’ll continue to see many of those companies throughout Marshline because I personally use and trust many of their products.

But there is another side of the fishing industry that deserves just as much recognition.

It’s the side built in garages, Small workshops, Backyard shops, Family-owned businesses, Late nights after a full-time job, and Weekend projects that eventually became successful companies.

Behind many of the products we use every day is someone who simply wanted to build something better.

That passion is what inspired the Marshline Small Business Spotlight.

More Than Just Fishing Tackle

Throughout my career, I’ve learned something that applies just as much to fishing as it does to life.

Simply put. People matter.

Behind every lure, jighead, custom rod, kayak accessory, net, or piece of fishing equipment is a person who had an idea, invested their own money, accepted the risk, and believed they could create something that would help anglers enjoy the sport we all love.

As someone who started Marshline from the ground up, I have a tremendous amount of respect for entrepreneurs who are willing to take that same leap of faith.

Many of these companies aren’t household names. Some operate out of a garage. Some are husband-and-wife teams. Some build every product by hand. Some may never become large manufacturers.

That doesn’t make their products any less valuable. In many cases, it makes them even more special.

Why This Series Exists

The Marshline Small Business Spotlight exists for one simple reason: To recognize the people who make fishing better. This series is not designed to promote the biggest companies.

It exists to tell the stories behind great products and the people who build them.

Fishing is more than rods, reels, and lures.

Fishing is a community.

Communities become stronger when we support the people who invest their time, creativity, and hard work into making our experiences on the water even better.

The Randall Cobb Standard

Before I publish a Small Business Spotlight, I want you to understand exactly how these companies are selected.

No company can purchase a Spotlight. No company can pay to be featured. No company is guaranteed coverage.

Every business featured on Marshline has earned my attention through personal experience, time on the water, conversations, or products that impressed me enough to share with others.

Some companies may eventually have affiliate programs and some never will. That will never determine whether they are featured.

If I recommend something, it is because I genuinely believe in it.  If I wouldn’t spend my own money on it…. I won’t recommend it.

It’s that simple.

Trust is worth far more than any commission to me

Why I Believe in Supporting Small Businesses

Large manufacturers will always have an important place in the fishing industry and will continue to have my support.

They drive innovation. They develop incredible technology. They continue improving products we all enjoy.

But many of the greatest ideas begin somewhere much smaller. Sometimes one angler simply decides to solve a problem. Sometimes a better jighead. A stronger hook. A unique lure color. A better kayak accessory. A different rod design.

One idea eventually grows into a business. Supporting these companies helps encourage innovation throughout our sport. It allows creative people to continue building products that otherwise may never exist.

What You Can Expect

Every Marshline Small Business Spotlight will include:

• Why I use their products

• Where their products excel

• Honest strengths and limitations

• Photos and fishing experiences

• Where you can learn more

If affiliate links are available, I will disclose them. If they aren’t, I’ll still happily tell you where to find the product. Because the recommendation always comes before the commission.

Building Relationships Instead of Transactions

One of my goals for Marshline is to build relationships throughout the fishing industry. Not just with large manufacturers. Not just with affiliate partners. But with the people quietly building great products because they genuinely care about helping anglers. Many of these businesses answer their own emails.Package every order themselves. Answer questions on social media personally. Take pride in every product that leaves their shop.

Those are the kinds of businesses I enjoy supporting.

What This Means for You

As a Marshline reader, you’ll continue seeing reviews of products from well-known manufacturers that I personally use and trust. But you’ll also discover companies you may never have heard of before. Some may become your new favorite lure.Your favorite custom rod builder. Your favorite jighead. Or simply a business whose story reminds you why fishing has always been about much more than catching fish.

Do You Know a Small Business Worth Featuring?

If you own a small fishing-related business, or know someone who does, I would love to hear their story. Marshline is always looking for passionate people building quality products that deserve recognition.

If their products have earned a place on my boat through real-world experience, they may earn a place in the Marshline Small Business Spotlight.

Thank You

Thank you for being part of the Marshline community.

Whether you’ve been fishing your entire life or you’re just getting started, my hope is that Marshline becomes more than a website.

I hope it becomes a trusted resource where you can learn new techniques, discover quality products, support good people, and become a more confident angler.

Because at the end of the day, fishing has never been just about the fish. It’s about the people we meet… The memories we create… The stories we share… And the community we build together.

I’ll see you on the coast.
